In the spotlight - Bachelor degree project konstfack 2010

Security screening from a user perspective

Airports are interesting from an architectural perspective, but also social and psychological. People from different parts of the world, with varying backgrounds and goals with their journeys are here linked together. For industrial designers who often direct their work towards a clearly defined target group, products that are to be used in this type of context present a major challenge.

Despite the existence of rigorous security checks at airports to protect the personnel and customers of the airline industry, many people experience both discomfort and annoyance over how the checks are carried out at present. Stress levels are often high and misunderstandings common. How can one improve the experience of passing through a security check by means of user-friendly design with a focus on product semiotics, and create an environment and products that communicates more clearly?
